Making Friends - Friendship Bracelets

Course subject: Health Education

Grade level: Kindergarten

Teacher’s name: Ms. Claudia

Volume: ll

Date: April 24, 2023

Objective: By the end of the 20 minute lesson, the students will be able to create a friendship bracelet, to the best of their ability, and give their friendship bracelet to a member of the class while expressing a trait they admire about the recipient or a positive feeling they have about the recipient. Their bracelet will appear different from its original state, which will show their attempt at creating a friendship bracelet. Additionally, their expression of a trait or positive feeling will be audible and understandable to the recipient.

Standard:

Component: Family, friends, and self

Objectives: Identify ways to express feelings in a healthy manner (HE.B.3.1.1), describe

various ways of demonstrating good manners (HE.B.3.1.4)

Competency: The student will role play and demonstrate positive actions towards others

(HE.B.3.1.4)

Events:

I will begin the lesson with the slideshow presentation. Therefore, I will first introduce the topic

of making friends and friendship bracelets. Then, I will explain how to make friends by being kind, expressing one’s feelings, and giving tokens of appreciation to one another. Then, I will describe the type of friendship bracelet that we are going to make in class. I will also hand out apiece of tape and a pre-tied bundle of string to each student. I will play the video, so the students can learn and follow along with how to make a friendship bracelet. I will also show the students a visual representation of the steps of making a friendship bracelet as a supplement. I will ask the students to hold up their bracelets, so I can check them for completion. Then, I will explain how to give one’s friendship bracelet to another student while also expressing a positive feeling or trait about the recipient. I will walk around the room and monitor the interactions. Then, I will close the lesson by reiterating what we learned about making friends and friendship bracelets.

Assessment:

I will ask the students to hold up their friendship bracelets when they are done completing them,

so that I can check them for completion. I will walk around the room and listen to the students as

they give their friendship bracelets to a friend and express their feelings or a trait they admire

about one another to each other.
